Hyderabad Metro Rail Hyderabad Metro Rail is one of the largest metro systems in South India, built as the world's largest metro project under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The operational Phase 1 network covers about 69.2 km across three colour-coded lines, and a much bigger Phase 2 expansion, including an airport line, has been approved. It is a modern, air-conditioned and green transport system serving the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. This guide covers the station list, route map, timings, fares, facilities, penalties and the latest Phase 2 updates. Blue Line: Nagole to Raidurg, via Secunderabad and Ameerpet. Green Line: JBS Parade Ground to MG Bus Station (MGBS), opened in February 2020. The key interchange stations are Ameerpet (Red Line and Blue Line), MGBS (Red Line and Green Line), and JBS Parade Ground (Blue Line and Green Line). Ameerpet is the busiest interchange on the network. Route Map - Hyderabad Metro Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 and Airport Line To meet the growing needs of the city, the Telangana Government approved a large Phase 2 expansion. Phase 2 covers roughly 76 km across five new corridors with around 54 stations, at an estimated cost of about Rs 24,269 crore. In May 2026, the central government agreed in principle to share the cost of Phase 2 on a 50:50 basis, an important step for the project. Phase 2 includes extensions such as Nagole to LB Nagar, Miyapur to Patancheru, and other corridors, along with the much-awaited airport metro line to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad. Is There a Metro to Hyderabad Airport? Not yet. As of now, the metro does not reach the airport. The airport line is part of the Phase 2 plan and is still under development. Until it opens, the most practical option is the TSRTC Pushpak Airport Liner bus, which connects RGIA with several metro stations including Secunderabad, Begumpet, JNTU College, Uppal and Tarnaka. So you can take the metro to one of these points and switch to the Pushpak bus for the airport. Train Timings Hyderabad Metro generally operates from about 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM on weekdays and weekends from all terminal stations. Trains run every few minutes during peak hours and a little less frequently at other times. These are general timings and can change as per operational needs, and ticket counters usually close about 5 minutes before the last train. Fare and Ticketing Hyderabad Metro fares are distance based, and there are several easy ways to pay based on how often you travel: Token (Single Journey Ticket): buy a contactless token at the Ticket Vending Machine or ticket office for a one-way trip. It is valid only on the day of purchase, and you must enter within about 30 minutes of buying it. QR and mobile tickets: buy a QR ticket through the official metro app and pay using UPI, cards or net banking. Scan the QR at the gate to enter and exit. Smart Card: a rechargeable card for regular travellers that saves time and usually gives a small discount over tokens. It can be bought and recharged at stations and through the app. NCMC (National Common Mobility Card): Hyderabad Metro has introduced the RuPay-based National Common Mobility Card across all three lines. This tap-and-travel card also works on other transport systems that accept NCMC, so it is the most future-proof option. Tip: For a one-time visit, a token or QR ticket is easiest. For regular travel, a Smart Card or NCMC card is cheaper and faster. Check the exact fare on the app or the station display before you travel. Facility All Hyderabad Metro trains are air-conditioned, with three coaches, and offer good passenger facilities: Accessible design: reserved spaces for wheelchair users, senior citizens and pregnant women. Automatic doors: a "doors closing" display and audio announcement before the train departs. Emergency contact: call points inside the train to speak to the operator in an emergency. Charging points: mobile and laptop charging inside coaches. Information display: digital screens and audio announcements in English, Telugu, Urdu and Hindi. Safety: CCTV cameras, fire extinguishers, first-aid boxes and emergency doors. Eating, drinking, spitting and sitting on the floor inside coaches are not allowed and can be penalised. Passengers are requested to keep the trains and stations clean. Feeder Services or Last Mile Connectivity Most metro stations have last-mile options to reach your final destination. These include app-based cabs and autos, shared autos, feeder buses, and cycle or bike rentals at select stations. Availability and operators change over time, so check the app of your preferred cab or rental service for stations near you.
