Rationalisation of Fare by Indian Railways : 01.07.2025

Indian Railway announced that in a move aimed at streamlining fare structures and enhancing financial sustainability of passenger services, the Ministry of Railways has rationalised the ✅ basic fare of Passenger train services, effective from 01 July 2025. The revised fares are based on the updated Passenger Fare Table issued by the Indian Railway Conference Association.

Key Highlights of Fare Rationalisation (Effective from 1st July 2025)

  • No change in Suburban single journey fares and Season Tickets (for both suburban and non-suburban routes).

For Ordinary Non-AC Classes (Non-suburban trains)

  • Second Class: Increased by Half Paisa per Kilometre subject to condition that
    • No increase up to 500 Km
    • Increase by Rs.5 for distance 501 to 1500 Km
    • Increase by Rs.10 for distance 1501 to 2500 Km
    • Increase by Rs.15 for distance 2501 to 3000 Km
  • Sleeper Class: Increased by 0.5 paisa per kilometre
  • First Class: Increased by 0.5 paisa per kilometre

For Mail/Express Trains (Non-AC)

  • Second Class: Increased by 01 paisa per kilometre
  • Sleeper Class: Increased by 01 paisa per kilometre
  • First Class: Increased by 01 paisa per kilometre 

For AC Classes (Mail/Express trains) 

  • AC Chair Car, AC 3-Tier/3-Economy, AC 2-Tier, and AC First/Executive Class/Executive Anubhuti: Increased by 02 Paisa per kilometre

Other Information

  • The fare revision also applies to premier and special train services such as Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Tejas, Humsafar, Amrit Bharat, Mahamana, Gatimaan, Antyodaya, Jan Shatabdi, Yuva Express, AC Vistadome coaches, Anubhuti coaches, and Ordinary non-suburban services, in accordance with the revised class-wise fare structure. 
  • Reservation fees, superfast surcharges, and other charges remain unchanged.
  • GST will continue to be levied as per applicable rules.
  • Fare rounding principles remain as per existing norms.

Other Charges Applicable on Passenger Fares

For Mail/Express services

  • A Second Class ticket requires a minimum distance of 50 km, with a base fare of ₹30, reservation fee of ₹15, and a superfast surcharge of ₹15.
  • Sleeper Class tickets require a minimum 200 km distance, base fare of ₹126, reservation fee of ₹20, and a superfast surcharge of ₹30.
  • For AC Chair Car, AC Economy, and AC 3-Tier, the minimum chargeable distance is 300 km, with a base fare of ₹446, reservation fee of ₹40, and ₹45 as a superfast surcharge.
  • First Class has a base fare of ₹233, reservation fee of ₹50, and superfast surcharge of ₹45, the minimum chargeable distance is 100 km.
  • AC 2-Tier fares differ by season: During peak periods, the base fare is ₹631, and in lean periods, it’s ₹611. Both have reservation fees of ₹50 and a superfast surcharge of ₹45.
  • AC First Class in peak periods costs ₹1065, and in lean periods, ₹1004. Reservation fees are ₹60, and the superfast surcharge is ₹75.
  • Executive Class has a reservation fee of ₹60 and a superfast surcharge of ₹75.

For Ordinary Services

  • Second Class (Suburban) requires a minimum 10 km, with a base fare of ₹4 and a reservation fee of ₹15.
  • First Class (Suburban) has a base fare of ₹23.
  • AC EMU (Suburban) charges ₹29.
  • Second Class (Non-Suburban) starts at ₹3, and First Class (Non-Suburban) starts at ₹45 with a reservation fee of ₹50.
  • AC EMU (Non-Suburban) fare is ₹59.
  • Sleeper Class has a minimum 200 km charge, fare of ₹79, and reservation fee of ₹20.
  • First Class (Non-suburban) fare is ₹45.

Monthly and quarterly season ticket (MST/QST) fares:

  • Second Class MST: ₹100
  • First Class MST: ₹325
  • AC EMU MST: ₹550
  • Second Class QST: ₹270
  • First Class QST: ₹880
  • AC EMU QST: ₹1595
