Railway Budget 2026
The Ministry of Railways plans to add more Vande Bharat trains in the financial year 2026–27. These will include Sleeper and Chair Car versions. Amrit Bharat and Namo Bharat trains will also be introduced.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw spoke about this at a press conference at Rail Bhawan on Sunday, February 1. He said more Vande Bharat Sleeper and Chair Car trains will be launched. He also said that Amrit Bharat and Namo Bharat services are coming soon. The minister said that the manufacturing of these trains is already in progress. He added that 17,000 coaches are currently under production. These coaches will be added in phases. He said train manufacturing is moving at a record speed.
Railway Budget 2026
The central government has allocated ₹2,93,030 crore as capital expenditure for the Ministry of Railways in the Union Budget 2026–27. The total budget outlay is ₹2,78,030 crore. This is the highest allocation ever for Indian Railways.
The Ministry of Railways said the budget will be used for high-speed connectivity, freight services, and safety. It also said this is the highest capital expenditure planned so far.
Vande Bharat Sleeper trains
Indian Railways has introduced 16-coach Vande Bharat Sleeper trains. It is now working on 24-coach Vande Bharat Sleeper trains.
The 24-coach sleeper trains are being manufactured at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai. A total of 50 such rakes will be produced there.

The focus is on track Doubling, Kavach safety system, electrification and passenger amenities.
- 7 New high-speed Rail corridors have been announced. These corridors are called growth connectors. They aim to support sustainable mobility.
- The routes include Mumbai–Pune and Pune–Hyderabad.
- Other routes are Hyderabad–Bengaluru and Chennai–Bengaluru.
- Delhi–Varanasi and Varanasi–Siliguri are also included.
- A new East–West Dedicated Freight Corridor has been announced. This corridor will help improve logistics.
- It will run from Dankuni to Surat.
