25 New features are introduced with latest Vande Bharat Train
- 1. Seat Reclination Angle: The seat reclination angle has been increased from 17.31 degrees to 19.37 degrees, providing passengers with a more comfortable seating position.
2. Cushion Hardness: The hardness of the seat cushions has been optimized, reducing it from 290 N to 250 N, resulting in a 25% deformation reduction for improved seating comfort.
3. Seat Color: The color of seats in ECC (Executive Class Chair Car) has been changed from red to a pleasant blue.
4. Mobile Charging: Accessibility of mobile charging points under the seats has been improved for passenger convenience.
5. Footrest: Extended footrests have been added to seats in ECC, reducing their length from 670 mm to 530 mm.
6. Magazine Bags: Magazine bags have been provided for ECC class end seats.
7. Wash Basin: The wash basin depth has been increased to prevent water splashing in lavatories.
8. Toilet Lighting: Lighting in toilets has been improved, increasing from 1.5 watts to 2.5 watts for better visibility.
9. Toilet Handle: Toilet handles have been modified for an improved grip.
10. Water Tap Aerator: Aerator for water taps has been added to enhance water flow control.
11. Toilet Panels: Standardized colors have been used for toilet panels throughout the train.
12. Wheelchair Provision: Provision for securing wheelchairs of Divyangjan passengers has been made in Driving Trailer coaches where applicable.
13. Trim Panel: An improved upper trim panel has been introduced for better aesthetics and panel firmness in coaches.
14. Hammer Box Cover: The hammer box cover has been improved for easier access in case of emergencies.
15. Emergency Talk Back Unit: A borderless emergency talk-back unit has been installed to interact with the driver during emergencies, matching the panel background.
16. Fire Extinguisher: Hinged transparent door assemblies have been added for fire extinguishers in coaches to provide better visibility during emergencies.
17. FRP Panels: Modified panels of single-piece construction have been used for FRP (Fiber-Reinforced Plastic) panels to improve aesthetics inside the coaches.
18. Air Tightness: Improved air tightness measures have been implemented to enhance air conditioning with insulation over panels.
19. Roller Blind Fabric: Roller blind fabric with more tear strength and less transparency has been introduced.
20. Maintenance Hatch Doors: Hatch doors have been added for electrical maintenance doors in trailer coaches to facilitate maintenance.
21. Luggage Rack Controls: Smooth touch controls for luggage rack lights have been incorporated by changing from resistive touch to capacitive touch.
22. Driver Desk: A uniform colored driver desk has been introduced in Driving Trailer Coaches for improved visibility and aesthetics.
23. Emergency Stop Button: The emergency stop push button in the driver control panel has been interchanged for easier operation and access by the loco pilot.
24. Fire Detection and Suppression: An improved aerosol-based fire detection and suppression system has been installed inside the coaches.
25. Pantographs: High Rise pantographs have been used in areas where the landscape and OHE (Overhead Equipment) are in higher positions.
Existing Features of Old Vande Bharat Trains
- Train Configuration: The train consists of 16 coach chair cars with a special emphasis on passenger comfort and safety.
- Power Distribution: It uses a unique power distribution system with 50% of its axles powered, with every alternate coach having power, enhancing efficiency.
- Construction: The train’s car body is made of stainless steel, ensuring durability and longevity.
- Speed: The Vande Bharat Express can reach a speed of 160 km/h in just 140 seconds, making it one of India’s fastest trains.
- Passenger Comfort: It offers better riding comfort with a riding index of 3.5. The seats are modular and can rotate 180 degrees in the executive class.
- Doors: The train features automatic plug doors with sliding footsteps and touch-free sliding doors, enhancing passenger convenience and safety.
- Control Management: A Coach Control Management System is in place to monitor air conditioning, communication, and provide feedback to the control center and maintenance staff via GSM/GPRS.
- Air Conditioning: It has improved heat ventilation and air conditioning with a higher efficiency compressor and UV lamps for germ-free air supply.
- Lavatory: Special lavatories are provided for passengers with disabilities (Divyangjan).
- Infotainment: Each coach is equipped with a 32″ Passenger Information and Infotainment System.
- Safety: The train has Level-II safety integration certification for better train control management. It also includes KAVACH, a Train Collision Avoidance System.
- Emergency Features: Emergency lighting, emergency windows, and emergency talk-back units are installed in each coach.
- Driver-Guard Communication: There is a system for communication between the driver and guard with voice recording capability.
- Flood Protection: The train is designed to withstand floods up to a height of 650 mm with better flood-proofing for under-slung electrical equipment.
- Fire Safety: The train incorporates advanced fire-fighting safety measures, including aspiration-based fire detection and suppression systems.
The Vande Bharat Express is considered India’s fastest train and is seen as a successor to the Shatabdi Express. It was built under the “Make in India” project by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai in just 18 months. The train aims to reduce travel time by 15% compared to the existing Delhi-Bhopal Shatabdi Express. It features a fully air-conditioned environment, on-board Wi-Fi, vacuum toilets, sliding doors, continuous windows, and charging points at every seat. The train has executive compartments with 52 seats each and trailer coaches with 78 seats each.
The initial cost of the first train set was Rs. 100 crore, with some imported components that were planned to be indigenized for future iterations. Safety measures include doors that only open when the train stops, ensuring passenger safety. The train underwent test runs in Chennai and aimed to reach a speed of 160 km/h during testing.

This marks the fourth Vande Bharat train service in the state of West Bengal. The Patna-Howrah Vande Bharat Express will traverse a distance of 532 km from Patna to Howrah. This semi-high-speed train is anticipated to complete the journey in just 6 hours and 30 minutes, a significant improvement compared to the current fastest train on this route, which takes 8 hours. Indian Railways will begin operating the eighteenth Vande Bharat Express on Monday, 29 May. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will flag off Assam’s first Vande Bharat Express on 29th May at 12 noon via video conferencing. The train will operate from Guwahati in Assam to New Jalpaiguri(NJP) in West Bengal.

- Guwahati – New Jalpaiguri will be the first Vande Bharat Express to operate in Assam and also in India’s Northeast part.

Western Railway announced that the New Vande Bharat Express will offer world – class comfort and facilities to passengers. The fully air-conditioned Vande Bharat has several modern features such as sliding doors, personalised reading lights, mobile charging points, attendant call buttons, bio-toilets, automatic entry and exit doors, CCTV cameras, reeling facility, comfortable seats etc. The inaugural run of third Vance Bharat Express was flagged off by PM on 30.09.2022.

Western Railway announced that for the convenience of passengers, additional stoppage is being provided at Borivali station to Train No. 20901/20902 Mumbai Central – Gandhinagar Capital Vande Bharat Express with effect from 23rdJanuary, 2023. Due to the additional halt at Borivali station, the timings of the train at few stations are also being changed. Further, the days of operation of this train will be changed from ‘all days except Sundays’ to ‘all days except Wednesday w.e.f 30th May, 2023’

According to a press release issued by Shri Sumit Thakur – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, the details of the timings of the train are as under:
- From 23rd January, 2023, Train No. 20901 Mumbai Central – Gandhinagar Capital Vande Bharat Express will arrive Borivali station at 06.23 hrs and depart at 06.25 hrs. Consequently, the train will depart from Mumbai Central station at 06.00 hrs instead of 06.10 hrs. At Vapi station, the train will arrive/depart at 07.56/07.58 hrs instead of 08.00/08.02 hrs. There will be no change in timings of arrival/departure at other stations.
- Similarly, in the return direction, from 23rd January, 2023, Train No. 20902 Gandhinagar Capital – Mumbai Central Vande Bharat Express will arrive Borivali station at 19.32 hrs and depart at 19.34 hrs. Consequently, the train will arrive Mumbai Central station at 20.25 hrs instead of 20.15 hrs. There will be no change in timings of arrival/departure at other stations.
Also, the days of operation of Train No. 20901/20902 Mumbai Central – Gandhinagar Capital Vande Bharat Express will be changed from ‘all days except Sundays’ to ‘all days except Wednesday w.e.f 30th May, 2023’. The booking for the trips from 30/05/2023 will be open as per Advance Reservation Period (ARP).

- Indian Railways is all set to serve high end delicacies suited to the taste-buds of esteemed clientele in the prestigious semi-high speed train. The elegant design and appearance of the train shall be ably complimented with local cuisine anticipating preferred train patronisation from Gujarat and Maharashtra, though the menu shall also address passenger expectations from other parts of the country.
- Looking to cater to the premium business and Corporate segment that travels on the route, Health Conscious and Low calorie food options made from Ragi, Bhagar, Cereals, Oats, Muesli, etc shall be integral to the menu. Railways has not missed its focus on the preference of Fasting/ Jain/ Senior patrons in the Mumbai Gujarat Section. Dishes prepared from Sabu Dana, Bhagar and Fruits which are otherwise light on the stomach but still have high nutritional value are much a part of the menu.
- The customised menu for Vande Bharat Train is also in sync with the theme of ensuing year 2023 which is poised to be celebrated World over as the International Year of Millets. Indian Railway introduced India’s first engine-less self propelled train called Train 18 or Vande Bharat Express. It’s commercial run started from 17 February 2019 onwards. Details of Train Nos.22436/22435 New Delhi ((NDLS) – Varanasi (BSB) Vande Bharat Express are here.
On January 17, 2019 – Minister of Railways and Coal, Shri Piyush Goyal announced the name Vande Bharat Express for Train 18, acknowledging its made-in-India status. He called it a ‘vandaniya’ step towards realisation of New India vision. This train set has been manufactured by Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in the period of 18 months under ‘Make in India’ program.
Main Features
- No concession and child fare shall be admissible in this train. Only full fare adult ticket shall be issued.
- No Senior Citizen /Divyang/Journalist concession ticket booking is allowed in this train.
- The passenger boarding from ALD to BSB and from BSB to ALD shall have Option to opt out of on-board catering services at the time of booking.
- The fare, for those passengers who do not opt for catering services between ALD to BSB station (up/down directions) in advance at the time of booking, shall not include the respective catering charges.

Northern Railway has decided to increase the frequency of train no. 22436/22435 New Delhi – Varanasi – New Delhi Vande Bharat Express from 05 days a week to 06 days a week with existing composition, timings and stoppage from 20.03.2023.
Train No.22436/22435 New Delhi – Varanasi-New Delhi Vande Bharat Express train with extra days of running oÂn Monday will now run oÂn every Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday andSaturday six days in a week (except Thursday). Running of Varanasi Vande Bharat oÂn six days in a week is going to be a real game changer for boosting the regional economic and tourism sectors of both the States i.e.; Uttar Pradesh and New Delhi (National Capital). Vande Bharat Express is a new-age train redefining passenger travelling in India.
