E-Pass Facility for Railway Employees Indian Railways has officially introduced the E-pass module within the Human Resource Management System (HRMS), developed by CRIS, enabling railway employees to generate passes and book tickets online. It replaces the earlier manual system of issuing physical passes and PTOs (Privilege Ticket Orders). The E-Pass module, developed by CRIS under the HRMS project, is being introduced across Indian Railways in a phased manner. With this facility, railway employees no longer need to visit the office to apply for a pass or wait for its issuance. They can now apply online from anywhere and have the E-Pass generated digitally. The entire process of applying for and generating the pass is mobile-friendly. Ticket booking using the E-Pass can also be done online through the IRCTC website, in addition to the existing option of booking tickets at PRS or UTS counters. This facility will help Railway employees in using their pass hassle-free and simultaneously make the working of all officials involved in the issuance of Pass smooth. Digital Life Certificate Campaign for Pensioners Features/ Purpose / Platform / Eligibility / Benefits of E-Privilege Pass/PTO Module Procedure to Apply for E-Pass / PTO through HRMS Website FAQ Digital Life Certificate Campaign for Railway Pensioners Nationwide Mega Digital Life Certificate : Eastern Railway has announced that the Nationwide Mega Digital Life Certificate (DLC) Campaign 4.0 will be conducted in collaboration with nationalized banks. The campaign is scheduled for 18th, 19th, 25th, and 26th November 2025, starting from 12:00 pm at Udisha Auditorium, Fairlie Place, Eastern Railway, Kolkata. All Eastern Railway pensioners and family pensioners are invited to participate. During the campaign, they will receive guidance and support for submitting their Digital Life Certificates and addressing related queries. South Western Railway Launches Digital Life Certificate Campaign 4.0 for Pensioners : To make the submission of Life Certificates easier for pensioners, South Western Railway has introduced (12.11.2025) the Digital Life Certificate Campaign 4.0. This initiative allows pensioners to submit their Life Certificates online conveniently from their homes, eliminating the need to visit banks or offices in person. This user-friendly digital system particularly benefits senior citizens, saving their valuable time and effort while ensuring convenience and accuracy in pension-related services. How to Submit the Digital Life Certificate Download the AadhaarFace RD (Early Access) application by UIDAI (latest version 0.7.43) from the Google Play Store. After installation, download the Jeevan Pramaan app from the Google Play Store (version 3.6.3). Using these applications, pensioners can easily submit their Digital Life Certificates online from home. Help Desk Support To assist pensioners, Help Desks have been set up at Headquarters, Banks, and Divisional & Workshop Offices. Staff at these centres will guide and support pensioners in submitting their Digital Life Certificates. All pensioners are encouraged to make use of this facility and submit their Life Certificates through the digital platform. Facility to select origin and destination stations and choose train preferences. Passes are generated digitally and can be downloaded or shown on a mobile device—no need for paper copies. The system automatically validates eligibility, quotas, and entitlements. Real-time status tracking of applications and approvals. Integration with the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) for easy booking of tickets using the e-pass number. Purpose To simplify the process of issuing travel passes for railway employees and their dependents. To promote Digital India by enabling online application, approval, and issuance of passes. To ensure transparency, faster processing, and record-keeping. Platform The facility is available on the HRMS (Human Resource Management System) portal and mobile app of Indian Railways. Employees can apply for E-Pass or E-PTO online through HRMS using their login credentials. Eligibility Available to serving and retired railway employees as per railway rules. Back To Top ^ Procedure to Apply for E-Pass / PTO through HRMS Website Visit the HRMS Portal : Go to the official Indian Railways HRMS website – https://hrms.indianrail.gov.in/ Login to Your Account : Enter your HRMS ID (11-digit PF number) and password. If you are logging in for the first time, click on ‘Forgot Password’ to create a new one. Open the E-Pass / PTO Module. After logging in, select the ‘E-Pass / PTO’ option from the main dashboard. The screen will display your personal details and entitlements. Select the Type of Application : Choose whether you are applying for an E-Pass or a Privilege Ticket Order (PTO). Click on ‘Apply New’. Enter Journey Details : Fill in the From and To stations, journey class, and purpose of travel. Select the family members or dependents who will travel with you. Attach Supporting Documents (if required) : Upload any required document (for example, dependent age proof, medical certificate, etc.). Submit the Application : Review the details carefully. Click on ‘Submit’. The application will be automatically sent to your controlling officer for online approval. Approval & Generation of E-Pass / PTO. Once approved, the E-Pass / PTO will be generated automatically. You will receive a notification or SMS alert when it is issued. Download or View E-Pass / PTO. You can download, print, or view the E-Pass / PTO on your computer or mobile device. The document contains a unique Pass ID / PTO Number. Book Tickets Booking Procedure Login to HRMS portal/app. Select E-Pass/E-PTO module. Fill in journey details (stations, dates, family members). Submit for approval through the online workflow. Once approved, the E-Pass is issued digitally and can be used to book tickets via IRCTC or PRS. Use the E-Pass ID to book tickets online via the IRCTC website or at PRS/UTS counters.
