Ganpati Special Trains 2026 : What to Expect

Central Railway has announced 246 Ganpati Special Trains for 2026, with full details below. Western Railway and Konkan Railway announcements are awaited and will be added here as they are released.

To give you an idea of the scale — in 2025, Indian Railways operated a record 380 Ganpati Special train trips: Central Railway ran 296 services, Western Railway 56, South Western Railway 22 and Konkan Railway 6 additional trips. In 2024 the figure was 358 trips, and 305 in 2023 — so the number goes up every year, and 2026 is expected to be even bigger.

Popular Ganpati Special routes (based on previous years):

  • Mumbai CSMT – Sawantwadi Road (Daily Special)
  • Lokmanya Tilak (T) – Sawantwadi Road (Daily / Bi-weekly Specials)
  • Mumbai CSMT – Ratnagiri (Daily Special)
  • Diva Jn. – Chiplun MEMU Special (Daily)
  • Diva Jn. – Khed MEMU Special (Daily)
  • Mumbai / Pune – Madgaon Specials

These trains generally halt at major Konkan stations including Panvel, Pen, Roha, Mangaon, Veer, Khed, Chiplun, Sangameshwar Road, Ratnagiri, Rajapur Road, Vaibhavwadi Road, Kankavali, Sindhudurg, Kudal and Sawantwadi Road.

The Central Railway list is below. We will add Western Railway and Konkan Railway services as they are announced and available on our Special Trains List 2026 page.

How to Book : Step-by-Step Tips

  1. Create or verify your IRCTC account now. Do not wait until the day a special train opens. Verify your mobile number and email, add passenger details in the Master List, and link your bank or UPI in advance. Every second counts at 8:00 AM.
  2. Use the Master List. Save all family members’ details in the IRCTC “My Master List” so you can add 4 to 6 passengers in one click instead of typing.
  3. Log in by 7:50 AM. Be logged in before 8:00 AM with the train and date already decided. Payment via UPI is usually the fastest.
  4. Keep 2 or 3 date options ready. If September 12 is waitlisted, September 11 or 13 may still have seats. Flexibility increases your confirmation chances. It also helps to understand waiting list codes like GNWL, RLWL and PQWL and your RAC confirmation chances.
  5. PRS counter option. If online booking fails, PRS counters (including the extra windows at Thane) open at 8:00 AM for the same dates. Reach early with a filled reservation form.
  6. Watch for special trains. Special train (0-series) bookings open separately when each train is announced. Many passengers miss these, so follow this page or our updates on X for instant alerts.
  7. Beware of touts and fake agents. Book only through IRCTC, authorised agents or PRS counters. Konkan Railway has also warned passengers against fraudulent bookings.

Why Trains Are the Best Option for Ganpati Travel

During Ganpati season, private bus fares on the Mumbai to Konkan route shoot up to 2 or 3 times the normal rate. Trains remain the most affordable, safest and most comfortable option, which is exactly why the rush is so heavy. The Mumbai to Goa highway also sees massive traffic jams during the festival window, making rail travel even more attractive. If your train is affected by monsoon disruptions on the way, check our major train blocks page and the cancelled trains list before you leave.
