If you are new to Lucknow Metro, the good news is that it is simple. One line, easy to follow, and it covers most of the places a visitor or daily commuter actually needs. It is run by the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC), which used to be called Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation Limited (LMRC). You will still spot the old LMRC name on some signs and tickets, so do not let that confuse you. Lucknow Metro Route Map
There is just one working line right now, the Red Line. It runs north to south, from CCS Airport at the bottom to Munshi Pulia at the top, and covers about 22.87 km. Most of it is elevated, but the stretch through Charbagh and Hazratganj dips underground, which is the busy heart of the city.

Tip: Coming into Lucknow by train? Get off at Charbagh. The metro station connects straight to the railway station, so you can walk across without stepping out into traffic. It is easily the most useful stop for anyone arriving from out of town.
Lucknow Metro Fare Chart 2026
Fares work on distance, which really means how many stations you pass, not how long you sit on the train. The cheapest ticket is ₹10. The most you will ever pay for a single trip is ₹60, which is the full run from one end to the other. Here is the slab guide:

Lucknow Metro Timings and Frequency
The first train pulls out at 6 in the morning from both ends, CCS Airport and Munshi Pulia. The last one leaves at 10 at night, again from both terminals. During the morning and evening rush you rarely wait more than five or six minutes for a train. Off-peak, it stretches to seven or ten minutes. The full end to end ride takes about 40 minutes.
One thing worth knowing: timings can shift a little on Sundays and public holidays. If you have an early flight or a late night out, check the UPMRC notice board before you count on it.
GoSmart Card and Tourist Card
If you ride the metro even a few times a week, get a GoSmart Card. It is a tap and go card, so no standing in the token queue every single time, and you save 10% on each journey. Buy it or top it up at any station counter, at a vending machine, on the UPMRC website, or through UPI. After you register it, station Wi-Fi is free too.
Just visiting for a day or two? The Tourist Card makes more sense. It is a flat pass for unlimited rides:
- 1 day: ₹100
- 3 days: ₹250
- Both come with a ₹100 deposit that you get back when you return the card
Tip: UPMRC is making the GoSmart Card work across other Uttar Pradesh metros. So the same card is meant to cover you in cities like Kanpur and Agra as those lines open up. Handy if you travel around the state.
Lucknow Metro Phase 1B: The New Corridor
Here is what most commuters are waiting for. A second line, called Phase 1B, is finally moving from paper to ground. What we know so far:
- It runs from Charbagh to Vasant Kunj, about 11.16 km in all.
- It brings 12 new stations. Seven of them go underground, five stay elevated.
- The five elevated stops are Thakurganj, Balaganj, Sarfarazganj, Musabagh and Vasantkunj.
- The Union Budget for 2026-27 put ₹1,450 crore behind it, which is the money that lets real construction start.
- Beyond this, UPMRC has floated a much bigger plan with several more corridors across the city, though those are still at the proposal stage.
The point of this line is to tie the old city and the growing western neighbourhoods into the central Charbagh hub. Once it opens, the metro stops being a single straight line and starts feeling like an actual network.
