MMTS Train Fare Details
MMTS remains among the cheapest urban transport systems in the country, with a minimum fare of around ₹5 that has held since the service began.
First Class Fares
First Class base fares on suburban sections were rationalised, roughly halving single journey fares. The revised structure by distance slab:
| Distance | Earlier fare | Revised fare (incl. GST) |
| 1 to 5 km | ₹50 | ₹25 |
| 6 to 10 km | ₹50 | ₹25 |
| 11 to 15 km | ₹65 | ₹35 |
| 16 to 20 km | ₹100 | ₹55 |
| 21 to 25 km | ₹100 | ₹55 |
| 26 to 30 km | ₹145 | ₹85 |
| 31 to 35 km | ₹145 | ₹85 |
| 36 to 40 km | ₹155 | ₹90 |
| 41 to 45 km | ₹155 | ₹90 |
For daily commuters: A season ticket costs a fraction of buying daily tickets, and MMTS season fares are very low even by suburban standards. Carry your photo Identity Card with the pass, since the pass alone is treated as invalid without it.
Buying Tickets
| Booking counters | At all MMTS stations |
| ATVMs | At major stations, using a smart card or UPI QR payment. See our ATVM guide |
| RailOne app | The official app for unreserved and season tickets |
Note the app change. The old UTS app was discontinued in March 2026, and RailOne is now the official app for buying MMTS journey and season tickets. If you had a balance in your R-Wallet, it carries across provided you register on RailOne with the same mobile number. Paying from your R-Wallet earns a discount on unreserved tickets.

MMTS and Hyderabad Metro
Hyderabad has two separate rail systems, and knowing where they meet saves a lot of time.
| MMTS | Run by South Central Railway, uses railway tickets and passes |
| Hyderabad Metro | A separate operator with its own tickets and the NCMC card |
Tickets are not interchangeable between the two. Useful interchange points include Secunderabad, Begumpet and the Hitech City area, where the two networks run close enough to switch on foot or by a short auto ride.
MMTS is considerably cheaper, while the Metro is faster and more frequent on the corridors it serves. For many journeys across the city, combining the two works out best. See our Hyderabad Metro guide.
Which Stations Matter Most
- Secunderabad is the main interchange, connecting MMTS with long-distance trains and the Metro. See our Secunderabad station guide.
- Hitech City and Hafeezpet serve the IT corridor, which is why the western section carries heavy office traffic.
- Lingampally is the western terminus and a useful railhead for long-distance trains.
- Hyderabad (Nampally) serves the central city and the old city approaches.
- Kacheguda connects to long-distance services on the southern routes.
Practical Tips
- Buy a season ticket if you travel more than a few times a week. The saving is substantial.
- Peak hours are busiest on the western section, towards Hitech City in the morning and back in the evening.
- Check the timetable before travelling off-peak, since frequency drops considerably outside commuting hours.
- Use ATVMs to skip the counter queue, paying by UPI QR without needing a smart card.
- Allow extra time during the monsoon, when services can run late.
