NOSB Tickets in Trains

NOSB (No Seat / Berth) tickets in trains are specifically for children. Here are the common information for obtaining these tickets.

Conditions for NOSB Tickets

For NOSB tickets and unreserved class tickets where half of the adult fare is applicable for a child, the half fare will be based on the base fare. Additional charges such as superfast charges, catering charges, GST, etc., will be levied in full.
Children traveling alone or in groups without an adult attendant will be permitted only if full fare berths are opted for. Tickets for children without a berth can be issued by linking the PNR to that of their parents, guardians, or attendants, subject to certain conditions.

Conditions regarding Age of Child , Class of Travel and Applicable Fare

  • For reserved tickets, children below 5 years of age can travel for free, and the purchase of a ticket is not required. However, a separate berth or seat (in chair car) will not be provided. If a berth or seat is sought on a voluntary basis for children below 5 years, a ticket will be issued at full adult fare. Children who are Divyangjan (disabled) are eligible for a concession on the adult fare as per railway rules.
  • For unreserved tickets, children under 5 years of age can travel for free, and the purchase of a ticket is not required. However, if a berth or seat is sought on a voluntary basis for children below five years, a ticket will be issued at full adult fare. Children who are Divyangjan (disabled) are eligible for a concession on the adult fare as per railway rules.
  • For reserved accommodation (except seating), if a berth is sought for children aged 5 to below 12 years, full adult fare will be charged. In the case of children aged 5 to under 12 years for whom a full berth in the reserved class is sought at the time of reservation, full adult fare will be charged.
  • If no berth is sought (NOSB – No Seat/berth Option) for children aged 5 years to below 12 years, only half of the applicable adult fare will be charged. In such cases, the minimum distance charge will not be applicable.
  • For reserved seating accommodation for children aged 5 years to below 12 years, full adult fare shall be applicable. “Child NOSB (No Seat/berth Option) booking shall not be permitted in CC, EC, 2S, EA, etc. classes.
  • For unreserved accommodation, children aged 5 years to below 12 years will be charged half of the adult fare, subject to a minimum distance for the charge.
  • For all classes, passengers aged 12 years and above shall be charged full fare.
  • Child NOSB e-tickets can be booked through the link provided in the booked ticket history of the parent PNR.
  • The Child NOSB PNR will automatically be linked to the parent PNR upon booking.
  • Only one NOSB PNR can be linked to a single parent PNR.
  • Vikalp opted PNRs are not permitted for Child NOSB bookings. Child NOSB PNRs cannot opt for Vikalp.
  • The number of NOSB berths must be equal to or less than the number of adults on the parent PNR.
  • Child NOSB PNRs can be cancelled independently, and refund rules for Child NOSB will apply.
  • If the parent PNR is cancelled, the associated Child NOSB PNR will also be cancelled.
  • If the parent PNR is dropped, the Child NOSB PNR will be automatically cancelled along with the parent PNR.
  • Child NOSB PNRs are not valid for travel without the parent PNR.
